Port St. Lucie Police Investigating Report of Shots Fired
On Monday, September 21, 2020 Port St Lucie Police responded to a report of shots fired at 2200 SE Veterans Memorial Parkway. Port St Lucie Police Officers learned that a physical fight had taken place between three individuals prior to one of the parties involved firing a weapon an unknown number of times. Nobody was struck by any bullets.
A short while later Port St Lucie Police Detectives and Officers located a vehicle on the 200 Blk of SW Pisces Terrace, which matched the description given by individuals involved in the fight. The driver was taken into custody pending investigation. There are no reported injuries.
After investigating through the night, the police have determined the chain of events. Detectives learned that 18 year old Antonio McFarlane and 20 year old Asonte Roswell brokered a marijuana deal with 23 year old Roel Brown with the intent of robbing him. All are Port St Lucie residents.
The incident transpired at Rivergate Park, and upon the arrival of all parties, McFarlane and Roswell brandished a knife and a firearm and attempted to rob Brown. A struggle ensued over the firearm and one round was discharged during the altercation. No individuals were struck by the errant round. All parties fled the scene; however, were apprehended a short time later.
Search warrants were executed on Brown’s vehicle and the residence where he was apprehended. Approximately 1/3 pound of suspected marijuana and the 9mm handgun utilized during the incident were recovered.
McFarlane and Roswell were charged with armed robbery, attempted purchase of marijuana, unlicensed carrying of a concealed firearm and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Criminal charges are pending for Brown.
Port St Lucie Police Officers and Detectives were able to confiscate one firearm and suspected illegal drugs from the City.
